The first important point of recognition of soul themes is the cyclical course. These are problems that recur in your life with the regularity of the clock, usually even over a period of several years. You thought your problem was solved, and suddenly it's back there. It gives you the feeling that after a few detours you have arrived at the same crossroad again.
For example, Joris has a karmic injury on separation anxiety. To avoid the pain of being abandoned again, he unconsciously ensures that he does not commit. In concrete terms, that means that his relationships are falling apart, one by one. His karmic fear sabotages a new relationship even before it has begun. He experiences the symptoms as the failure of relationships. After a few months, he is again and again at the same lonely crossroad.
Whatever Joris tries, he will not get out of his pattern. That is another characteristic of karmic themes. You feel yourself completely trapped in it. This releases feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness. It feels so much bigger than yourself. You can't beat it.
There seems to be no way out. Joris has already had many relationship therapies. Without result. The problem is not in the relationship, but in himself. Focusing on the relationship comes down to the same as combating symptoms. It makes no sense. The intention is to address the cause of the problem, and it is in a karmic knot at the soul level.
It brings us to a third trait of karmic injuries: you can't get through it by psychotherapy. There are two reasons for this. The injury is not located in the area of the psyche but at the level of the soul. The psyche is therefore not the area where we need to be. Karmic themes are the homework for the personality in which we are incarnated. It is the intention during this lifetime to gain experiences for our souls around those specific themes. So we were born with it, and they are usually activated from an early age. Someone who has a karmic injury to the right to exist will probably experience rejection right from the conception. This can be, for example, by not being welcome at one of the parents. Those painful experiences do nestle in the psyche, but the interdependent cause is therefore in a deeper layer.
Another reason is the presence of mental armors around karmic injuries. Because they are so painful, our minds have built a wall of self-defense around them. Thanks to that wall, we were able to survive. So there is nothing wrong with that. However, the problems only get worse if you do not know the mechanism and start the fight with that wall. As long as we stay in the mental layer during therapy, we will always collide with that wall. It will result in growing frustration until, at a certain point, we put all therapies in the same room because they no longer seem to work. That too is a completely normal phase during inner transformations.
You can often recognize karmic themes by their irrationality. You cannot mentally explain where your problems come from. Like Joris' example: he really wants a relationship, he has the necessary empathy and a beautiful appearance. Logically, he has all the tools to build a relationship. If he compares himself to certain friends who manage to maintain a relationship with much less tools, he will only get more frustrated. Why do they succeed and not me despite all the effort I make? I have much more to offer to a woman than them?
To compensate for his injuries, Joris has indeed become very good at dealing with women. Even more frustration ...
His efforts and intentions come from a conscious zone. He is aware that he wants a relationship and that he also has the good qualities for that. However, the underlying saboteur is in his subconscious mind. He cannot reach that because of the sturdy armor. He only sees the symptoms of that underlying karmic bessure. It is therefore logical that he focuses on those symptoms. However, the transformation will require a different approach.
Nicole suffers from panic attacks. They come up at certain times and in recent months more and more often. She doesn't know at all where the panic might come from. She has everything to be happy in her life. Good health, a wonderful family and a nice job. And yet those panic attacks begin to overshadow that happiness. She doesn't even know what she's panicking for. It feels like an existential fear that threatens to destroy it.
As Nicole describes her attacks: they are coming up. That is exactly what happens: they come out of the layers of the subconscious to find an exit to the outside. Completely irrational. They do not come from the experiences of this life but from the deeper soul layers.
If I describe it that way, it may all seem logical. However, it is a different story when it comes to ourselves. It is just our blind spots that prevent us from becoming more aware.
